African Nations Cup Qualifiers - Ethiopia 1 Libya 0
- Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)- (Farhan Abdullah)- The Ethiopian national team opened its 2008 Nations Cup Group 10 qualifier with a 1-0 over Libya thanks to a great goal from Dawit Mebratu, who had an excellent match. In the other Group 10 match, DR Congo squeezed by Namibia 3-2 at home.

- CAF rejects Ethiopia's bid
The Confederation of African Football has turned down a bid by Ethiopia to reverse their Nations Cup fixtures with Libya.
Ethiopia, scheduled to host Libya in their Group 10 qualifier on 3 September, wanted Libya to host the opening game, while the east Africans host the return fixture next year.- Officials of the Ethiopian Football Federation said the rainy season in the country, which led to flooding in some regions, was responsible for their request.
- Although they claimed Libya had agreed to the request, Caf refused to sanction the switch.
- The game will be played in Addis Ababa as originally planned.
ETHIOPIAN SPORTS FEDERATION IN SCANDINAVIA (EIFS) - Ethio-Botkyrka A clinches EIFS Title

- Stockholm-Sweden (08-21-2006)- Ethio-Botkyrka A, a football team of Ethiopians outside the capital, won the 2006 Ethiopian Sports Federation in Scandinavia (EIFS) title when they beat Ethio-Norway A in the final. The two teams reached the final after beating Ethio-Botkyrka B (3-1) and Ethio-Gothenburg (3-0) respectively.>>

New Orlando Pirates striker Fikru Tefera could easily have been at Egypt's Zamalek and not the Buccaneers. But it was his choice to move south instead of north. "I really like the way Pirates play and I saw myself fitting into the team easily. From what I've seen on TV and since I've been here I know I have come to the right club," Tefera told Kick Off. "I have seen Pirates play a lot on TV and I knew all about Benedict Vilakazi and Gift Leremi before I got here. The type of soccer Pirates play is good." Tefera's business manager still has the air ticket provided by Zamalek as proof that they were serious about him. But his loyalty is pledged to Pirates. "I want to make the Pirates fans happy for the way they've accepted me," Tefera says. |
